Pierre Bayle, born in Carla (Ariège) in 1647, died in Rotterdam in 1706 is considered one of the most famous European philosophers of the classical age.
Precursor of the Encyclopedists, he is the author of the Letter on the Comet (1682) and the important "Dictionnaire historique et critique" (1696).
Victim as Protestant of state intolerance under Louis XIV, he had to take refuge in the Netherlands.
The museum was built in 1989 in the house of the philosopher.
